Reasons Batteries are unable to last as long as they were designed to by their manufacturers:

The average life of lead acid batteries has dramatically decreased as energy demands have increased. Researchers show that thirty percent of the batteries sold today actually reach their full life potential as designed by lead acid battery  manufacturers. In fact, nearly 80% of battery failures today are related to sulfation build-up on the internal battery plates.

Sulfation build-up is usually onset by acid stratification (when batteries sit around unused), by over charging or under charging batteries, by deeply discharging batteries (running your golf cart or forklift till it won't move anymore), by poor battery maintenance (Over watering or under watering) and neglegence. 

Battery maintenance programs that tend to fail leave batteries in a really poor state of health and ultimately result in costly increases for business operating expenses. Labor costs are also increased, labor productivity decreases and equipment performance is drastically reduced when your battery maintenance programs fail.
